Recognizing World Mental Health Day & World Homeless Day
The Jimmy Pratt Memorial Outreach Centre would like to recognize World Mental Health Day and World Homeless Day, which both fell on October 10. The theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day was “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change,” which is a principle we work to incorporate into our work with vulnerable & marginalized members of our community.
These causes are central to the work we do, given that many of the community members who avail of our programs and services may be struggling with accessing housing or with mental health and/or substance use issues. As well, we know that housing insecurity and mental health issues are related—both issues exacerbate the other as individuals with mental health issues are more likely to experience homelessness and those experiencing housing insecurity are more likely to develop mental health problems.
We strive to spread awareness about mental health & homelessness, as well as to do our part to alleviate these serious issues in our community. If you are interested in supporting our work, click here to donate or click here to learn about sponsorships.
